Ni Hao, Kai-Lan
The first episode of the American children's television show Ni Hao, Kai-Lan aired on Nickelodeon on November 5, 2007, and on Noggin on December 15, 2008; the show is produced in the United States. Additionally, it was broadcast for the first time on the television channel Treehouse TV in Canada. In addition, the show has been broadcast on Nickelodeon in Israel ever since March of 2009. The television series Ni Hao, Kai-lan is based on the childhood experiences of the show's creator, Karen Chau, who grew up in a household that was composed of people of two different cultures. "Hello" is "Ni hao" in Mandarin, and Chau's birth certificate lists her given name as Kai-Lan, which was eventually anglicized to Karen. "Ni hao" means "Hello" in Mandarin.
