The movie is set in 11th century China during the reign of Emperor Renzong of this Song Dynasty. The emperor indulges in joys that are personal, while the federal government sinks to corruption and war continues to rage at the boundaries of the Song Dynasty and fails state events. The Song Dynasty will be occupied by the armies of Western Xia's equal nation. Yang Zongbao could be your last man standing at the Yang clan, a group of generals that have dedicated their own lives to defending the Song Dynasty from invaders. He expires in conflict tragically when the treacherous Imperial Tutor Pang will not send reinforcements to aid him. Yang Zongbao's widowed wife Mu Guiying contributes the Yang clan's widows to keep on the heritage in their husbands.
