Deacons for Defense
Set in 1965, the film is based on a true tale and depicts a young African-American man's struggle for civil rights. Despite the law, African-Americans in Bogalusa continue to be treated as second-class citizens, with their human rights routinely violated by the local KKK chapter and the larger white power structure. Deacons for Defense, an all-black defense group dedicated to patrolling the black quarter of town and safeguarding its citizens from the more violent parts of "white backlash."
