Achilles and the Tortoise

Machisu is an artist who specializes in landscapes. He never achieved the success to which he believes he is entitled. Regardless of this, he is constantly striving for achievement. Sachiko, his wife, continues to support him in the face of adversity. Machisu, the sole son of a wealthy collector, possesses a childlike enthusiasm for painting. The little youngster dreams of becoming a painter after receiving praise from a famous artist friend of his father. As a young man, Machisu, a poor loner, manages to attend art school using money gained via labour. He is introduced to a world of unorthodox inventiveness, but also receives his first taste of harsh criticism from a dealer. Encouragement comes from gorgeous clerk Sachiko, who is persuaded that she is the only person who knows him. Marriage is quickly followed by the birth of a daughter, as love and optimism motivate Machisu to further his commitment to his work...
