They Rode West
Dr. Allen Seward (Robert Francis) is assigned to a western cavalry post where his predecessors were slackers and drunks. The post doesn't like him either, especially after he breaks rules and treats sick Indians on the malaria-infested reserve. The Indians leave the reservation in search of a healthier higher terrain, and when they join forces with the Comanches to besiege the fort, Seward is labeled a "woodhawk," a bird that turns against its own kind. Donna Reed appears as the post commander's niece; Phil Carey is a cavalry captain who believes that the only good Indian is a dead Indian; and May Wynn (who made her film debut alongside Francis in "The Caine Mutiny") is the white girl reared by the Indians and married to the chief's son. Francis would only make two more films before his death in an aircraft crash in 1955.
